Our speech, too, is inaudible. We speak in tongues like the outcast and the insane. Because white eyes do not want to know us, they do not bother to learn our language, the language which reflects us, our culture, our spirit.

Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas emerged in April of 2023 as a literary journey, wherein Mexican and Chicanx poets embarked on a tour of five Mexican cities: Monterrey, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, León and Mexico City. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas is now presented as a collection of four books that integrate duos of Mexican and Chicanx poets, who all move between Spanish, English and Spanglish. These three languages and their speeches declare and manifest themselves on all sides of the Mexico-US border. These eight poetics coincide in themes of migration, land, border, language, politics, love, and more. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas is a collective atmosphere of emotions and ideologies wherein the lingua franca is poetry and its vehicle is an overextended and disorderly Spanish. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas is a metaphor that reveals voices and bodies which are migratory and amphibious: they breath, think, speak and act within a wound that never stops bleeding. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas materializes now in this project as a binational poetic unfolding between Mexico and the United States, demonstrating processual, intertextual, and conceptual writing practices. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas is a project in constant motion, which invites us to think and reflect on the circumstantiality of languages, the tongues that come together through poetry, and reject the idea of division and being far away. My love and gratitude for the generosity of each: poet, translator, editor, family, friends and all others who have joined. It should be clear that we will not ask for anyone’s permission. As Josiah Luis Alderete says that Francisco X. Alarcón says: aquí estamos y no nos vamos.
Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas surgió en abril del 2023 como travesía literaria, donde poetas mexas y chicanxs recorrimos cinco ciudades mexicanas: Monterrey, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, León y CDMX. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas ahora se presenta como una colección de cuatro libros que integra duplas de poetas mexas y chicanxs que se trasladan entre el español mexicano, el inglés y el spanglish. Estos tres idiomas con sus hablas, aquí se afirman y manifiestan entre ambos lados de la frontera MX-USA. Ocho poéticas que coinciden en los temas de migración, territorio, frontera, lenguaje, política, amor, entre otros. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas es unaatmósfera colectiva entre las emociones e ideologías donde la lengua franca es la poesía y su vehículo, un español extendido y sucio. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas es la metáfora de las voces y sus cuerpos trashumantes que anfibios, respiran, piensan, hablan y actúan entre una herida que nunca ha dejado de sangrar. Speaking in tongues / Hablando en lenguas se materializa ahora en este proyecto editorial como desdoblamiento poético binacional entre México-Estados Unidos, mostrando prácticas de escrituras procesuales, intertextuales y conceptuales. Todo mi agradecimiento y cariño por la generosidad de cada une: poetas, traductores, editores, familia, amigos y demás que se han ido sumando. Está claro que no vamos a pedir ningún premiso.
